I love this question. The simple answer to this simple question is "£2000". The funny thing is, the response I usually get is "Oh? What do you get for that?". So now you are talking about what you get for £2000 as opposed to trying to guess what a curious friend has in their cash float.
Of course, this becomes a discussion about "What if...". As in, "What if I didn't want such and such" or "Would that include whatever". So you end up sketching a proposal on the spot. This is much better than the my old response.
Q. "How much is a website?".
A. "That depends ...".
By this point you have already lost them. So my tip of the day is to just say "£2000" or "£4000" or whatever it is you would charge on average for a professional website. You can work out the details later. Get their interest first.

HTML5 is being developed with CSS3 and javascript in mind, with the intention of reducing reliance on plug-in-based Rich Internet Application's (RIA).

Flash is one an example of a RIA that most people recognise. The reason to reduce reliance on these things is because you have to download the plug-ins to make them work although Flash now comes as standard in most browsers. Flash is also far too evolved to be so easily replaced, having a massive influence on Facebooks' gaming community.
The HTML5 specification was adopted as the starting point of the work of the new HTML working group of the World Wide Web Consortium (W3C) in 2007 and is expected to reach the W3C Candidate Recommendation stage during 2012.
What excites us here is the fact that as of March 2010, the specification will already be in the Draft Standard state.
The 'WHAT Working Group' states:

If you find it hard to envision what is going on with HTML5, then let Ernest Delgado get your juices flowing at his slideshow demo. There are many interesting features for most developers but I love CSS and slide 33 (of 46) demonstrates opacity changes of text within a div. What is interesting is the fact that while you can change the div opacity on a slidebar you can change the opacity of the text in a different slidebar (at the same time). For those of you who don't have much experience of opacity, when you reduce the opacity of a div, everything in that div is treated with the same opacity. This has been a major pain but now it has been sorted and we can all get very excited.

Easter Webdesign? Increase your profit with a spring website makeover!

The Easter holidays are over and there is plenty of work on the horizon. On the 'Find out more' page you will see links to new areas of the website. These areas are still under construction so the links are currently disabled. However, keep checking back to see how we progress.
